Early accessEcosystem launch planned for January 2027
Your AI.
Your rules.
A coding agent for your terminal and desktop. Run any model on your own machine, and see every step it takes.
Neel Desktop: a message asking Qwen3.8 27B, running locally, to fix a failing date test. Neel reads the file, waits for you to allow the edit, then explains the fix with a receipt line. Afterwards you can type in the composer yourself; the preview answers, but Neel only really runs in the app.
- Any model. Local first. Cloud only if you choose.
- Every step on the record. Tokens, tools and timing.
- Nothing runs without you. Edits wait for your yes.
01Models
Bring any model.
Start with Gemma 4 on your Mac. Add your own model, or a hosted provider when you want one.
◆ On your machine
model ~8.5G~7.5G left / 16GFits
- Runs on
- This Mac
- Leaves your machine
- Nothing
- Account
- None
- Cost per answer
- No inference bill
Memory figures cover the curated Gemma 4 MLX 4-bit builds on Apple silicon. Other models depend on the file and runtime. A provider’s chat subscription does not automatically include API access.
02Receipts
Nothing happens off the record.
Every reply ends with one line of facts. Pick any part of it.

Speed
Measured by the engine while the answer streamed. Apps display it; they never estimate it.
Open the full record with neel inspect or the Inspector in Desktop: instructions, tool definitions, context and the raw response.
Illustrative values. The record shows requests, responses and tool actions, not a model’s private reasoning.
03Control
It asks before it acts.
Edits and commands wait for you. Pair your phone and answer from anywhere.
! Approval needed
Run npm test in ~/projects/atlas
- Ask Every edit and command waits for you.
- Allow matching Trust a command pattern for this session.
- Plan Read and reason only. Every edit is withheld.
04Surfaces
Wherever you work.

Private by default.
No account, no inference bill, nothing large downloads without your say.
No account for local use
Local models run without signing in and without an inference bill.
Models download only when you choose
Neel ships without model weights. Nothing large downloads without your say.
Every download SHA-256 verified
Runtimes fetched on first use are pinned and checked against a SHA-256.
Uninstall keeps your data
Uninstalling removes only what we installed. Models, settings and conversations stay yours.

Can I download Neel today?
Not yet. No public build has been released. The whole Neel ecosystem is planned to launch together in January 2027: Neel Desktop and the Neel CLI on Windows, macOS and Linux, the VS Code and Android Studio extensions, and Neel Mobile on Android and iOS. Join early access to hear when it is ready for your devices.
Does Neel need an account or an internet connection?
No account is needed for local models. A model downloads only when you choose one, and then it runs on your machine. Hosted providers are optional and need your explicit consent.
How do I choose a local model?
Start with the model's memory needs and a compatible runtime, not just its size or name. The example memory guide covers three curated Gemma variants in one documented configuration. Other models and devices need their own compatibility and memory checks.
Can I use Qwen, Llama or DeepSeek with Neel?
Gemma 4 is the curated starting point. Other model families can be explored through compatible user-added GGUF files or a supported local server. Qwen, Llama and DeepSeek are examples to evaluate, not a promise that every variant is tested with Neel. Memory, tool use and compatibility depend on the exact model and runtime.
What can I inspect in agent activity?
The instructions and context sent to the model, tool definitions, model calls, approved tool actions, timing, tokens and generation speed. You can compare the raw response with the formatted answer. This is an observable activity record, not access to a model's private internal reasoning.
Which platforms are you working toward?
All of them. Neel launches as one ecosystem: desktop, terminal, editor and mobile surfaces release together on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. That is the launch plan, not a claim that any platform is available today. No public build has been released yet.
Can different models work together?
That is part of the direction: choose one model for planning and another for execution, with your instructions and permissions connecting the workflow. Local runtimes and supported providers have different capabilities. A provider's chat subscription does not automatically include API access; its terms and charges still apply.
How will downloads be verified?
Every release will publish its SHA-256, a SHA256SUMS file, third-party notices and release notes. The CLI will install through Homebrew or through an offline installer that checks a downloaded archive against SHA256SUMS. There is no pipe-to-shell installer.
