A Few Good Coders — asset credits
Every third-party image, dataset, 3D model or bundled library file shipped
with this site, where it came from, its licence and how we changed it. Everything not listed here (the interface,
icons, diagrams, procedural effects such as the Sun's granulation, corona and
prominences, Earth's aurora and the Saturn ring lighting) is original work.

jupiter,saturn,uranus,neptune,sun}.webp are 160 x 80 WebP derivatives
(quality 74); textures/remote/wormhole.webp is a 96 x 96 crop of the starfield.

OTHER MOONS
Moon maps: NASA/JPL-Caltech, Space Science Institute, JHUAPL/SwRI,
ESA/DLR/FU Berlin; mosaics by USGS Astrogeology; HiPS by CDS (Strasbourg).
Colour approximated; unimaged regions filled.
All maps except deimos.webp are derived from U.S. Government (NASA/USGS)
mosaics, which carry no U.S. copyright. Web-sized equirectangular copies
(textures/moons/*.webp, 1024 x 512) were rendered once at build time with the
CDS hips2fits service (https://alasky.cds.unistra.fr/hips-image-services/hips2fits)
from the HiPS listed. Processing (all offline): coverage gaps filled
procedurally, greyscale mosaics art-directed to approximate true colour from
published spacecraft imagery, longitude normalised, downsampled.
Unimaged regions (the northern hemispheres of the Uranian moons and Triton,
Charon's south, Phobos's terminator shadows) are procedural fill, not data.

Credit: ESA/DLR/FU Berlin; USGS Astrogeology. Seam at the 180 degree meridian
corrected and terminator-shadow voids filled by smooth interpolation (not data).
- deimos.webp: original procedural texture (no global Deimos colour mosaic is published).
- Titan has no texture: it is drawn as a haze ball, coloured from Cassini imagery.
PLUTO
Pluto map: NASA/JHUAPL/SwRI (New Horizons); mosaic by USGS Astrogeology;
HiPS by CDS (Strasbourg). Colour approximated; unimaged south filled.
Source mosaic: USGS Astrogeology "Pluto New Horizons LORRI MVIC Global Mosaic
300m (Jul 2017)", via CDS HiPS CDS/P/Pluto/NewHorizons-Jul2017-300m, rendered
once with hips2fits (equirectangular, 2048 x 1024 and 4096 x 2048).
Public domain (U.S. Government work, NASA/USGS); no endorsement implied.
- pluto_2k.webp, pluto_4k.webp: the greyscale mosaic colourised with a
luminance lookup tuned to published New Horizons MVIC true-colour views.
The region south of about 30 to 38 degrees S, in polar night during the 2015
flyby, is procedural fill (a low-frequency continuation plus mirrored detail
from the north), feathered at the data edge: it is not data.
- pluto-remote.webp: a small Mission remote icon derived from the same map.
STARS AND CONSTELLATIONS
- sky/bsc5-v1.bin: Yale Bright Star Catalogue, 5th revised ed. (Hoffleit & Warren 1991),
via CDS (catalogue V/50), https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/ftp/V/50/
Public domain. J2000 RA/Dec, V magnitude and B-V re-encoded into a compact binary.
- sky/const-lines-v1.bin: d3-celestial constellation lines, (c) 2015 Olaf Frohn,
https://github.com/ofrohn/d3-celestial. BSD-3-Clause (licence text shipped at
/sky/LICENSE-constellation-lines.txt). Line segments re-encoded into a compact binary.
MILKY WAY PANORAMA
- sky/milkyway-eso0932a-4k-v1.webp: "The Milky Way panorama", ESO/S. Brunier,
https://www.eso.org/public/images/eso0932a/
CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Resized to 4096 x 2048
and re-encoded as WebP; tone-mapped in the renderer.
DEEP SPACE
- Andromeda Galaxy (M31): textures/deep/andromeda-heic2501a-2k.webp and -1k.webp,
and the 96 x 96 Mission remote icon textures/remote/andromeda.webp.
NASA, ESA, B. Williams (University of Washington). ESA/Hubble heic2501a,
https://esahubble.org/images/heic2501a/. CC BY 4.0. Resized, ragged mosaic edge
feathered into an alpha channel, re-encoded as WebP; in the renderer the area
beyond the mosaic's southern edge is filled from the point-reflected side of
the galaxy, and foreground Milky Way stars are added.
- Orion Nebula (M42): textures/deep/orion-heic0601a-2k.webp and -1k.webp, and the
96 x 96 Mission remote icon textures/remote/orion.webp.
NASA, ESA, M. Robberto (Space Telescope Science Institute/ESA) and the Hubble
Space Telescope Orion Treasury Project Team. ESA/Hubble heic0601a,
https://esahubble.org/images/heic0601a/. CC BY 4.0. Resized and re-encoded as
WebP; layered for parallax in the renderer; Trapezium stars added.
- Black hole and wormhole: textures/deep/blackhole-raytraced-v1.webp and
wormhole-ellis-v1.webp are stills rendered by A Few Good Coders from its own
ray-tracing shaders, as is the live view. Lensed background sky: ESO/S. Brunier
(eso0932a, CC BY 4.0), gravitationally lensed in the renderer.
The black hole is physically ray-traced (Schwarzschild light paths, thin disk
with a display-scaled Novikov-Thorne temperature profile, Doppler beaming
softened). The wormhole uses exact Ellis-wormhole lensing; its destination sky
is illustrative.
